Statistics

The Biostatistics Group offers a statistical advisory service for staff applying for, or undertaking, externally funded research.  Advice is freely available for study design issues prior to grant applications.  It is expected that statistical time will be costed into grant applications, and that the statistician will be a co-applicant where a substantial statistical contribution is required.  Up to two advisory sessions of an hour each are freely available on studies already underway.  These may cover statistical aspects at any stage of a project from analysis, through interpretation and presentation, to responding to journal referees’ criticisms.

Statistical analyses will be undertaken at the statistician’s discretion and subject to other commitments.  Time required for analysis, including familiarisation with the project and explanation of results, will be charged.  Where a substantial contribution has been made to the project it is expected that the statistician will co-author resulting publications.  Where a lesser contribution receives acknowledgement, it is expected that the statistician will review a draft manuscript before submission for publication.
