R&D Steering Board

NHS SalfoR+D Steering Board

Purpose

The purpose of the Steering Board is to oversee the research and development strategy of acute and primary care research within the Salford Health Economy.

Mission

“To generate and apply the best possible science for improving public health and patient care.”

Strategic Aims

  • To become a premier location for community and clinical population-based research.
  • To fulfil the translational research mission by ensuring that research findings are implemented in clinical and public health practice.
  • To attract, develop and retain world-class researchers.
  • To maximise research income through NIHR, Research Councils and others funders.

Guiding Principles in Strategy Development

  • The strategy must be owned by the NHS SalfoR+D Board.
  • The strategy should be developed in consultation with lead researchers from both Trusts, and our partner Universities.
  • Engagement with primary care from the outset is crucial for development and delivery of the strategy.
  • The strategy should be developed with reference to the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre development.
  • Research and development must be promoted as part of the culture for delivery of clinical and public health excellence and world class commissioning.
  • When finalised, the strategy should be drafted in lay language and distributed to all households in Salford, along with a lay description of what research entails.
