NIHR CSO Healthcare Scientists Research Fellowships Competition 2010
The Chief Scientific Officer for the Department of Health (supported by the NIHR) has launched the next round of CSO Health Scientists Research Fellowships:

The scheme supports the development of healthcare scientist research capacity by providing funding aimed at patient benefit. Fellowships are available for both doctoral and postdoctoral level research. All applicants for fellowships must hold a substantive employment contract with the NHS and have completed their training (in addition to holding voluntary or statutory registration with the Health Professions Council). The research proposed must be of direct relevance to the NHS with the potential to improve service or clinical outcome. Applications are invited from individuals working in England from one of the three main Healthcare Scientist disciplines: Life Sciences,
Physiological Sciences, or Physical Sciences / Engineering.
The award will cover:
- The Fellow’s salary including the employer's contribution to National Insurance and superannuation.
- A contribution to research costs (capped at £20,000 for the duration of the Fellowship).
- Costs of formal courses, training and development (capped at £10,000 for the duration of the Fellowship).
- Tuition Fees to undertake a PhD for doctoral level Fellows (capped at £4000 p.a.).
- The award will not cover full economic costs.
The deadline for applications is Monday 7 December 2009.
